Making a Zoom Room the Host

Summary

Make the Zoom Room a host to resolve sharing issues.

Body

Occasionally when using one of the Zoom-enabled classrooms you will find that you are unable to share your screen. This is caused when someone enters the Zoom meeting before the Zoom Room joins.

Symptoms

  • Unable to Share Screen (PC/Aux/Doc Camera) and the Zoom Room is Not the Host

Solution

  1. Find your Host Key
  2. Customize Host Key
  3. Enter Host Key in Meeting Controls

Find your Host Key

  1. Log into johncarrolluniversity.zoom.us (use the SSO method)
  2. In the left-hand navigation, click on Profile
  3. Scroll down to the section titled "Meeting"
  4. Under the Meeting section, you should see "Host Key"
  5. Click on the closed-eye icon
  6. Now your personal Host Key is visible

Customize Your Host Key

  1. Follow steps 1 through 4 above
  2. On the far right-hand side of the screen (same line as "Host Key"), click Edit.
  3. Enter any 6-digit number.
  4. Click Save.

Enter Host Key into Meeting Control Screen

  1. On the Zoom side of the touchscreen, select Manage Participants.

  2. Under the Participants you will see that the room does not have (Host) next to the room name, meaning the room is not able to share.

  3. At the bottom of the participant list, select Claim Host and enter the code you retrieved from your user profile.

  4. You will now see that the room has (Host) after the name and will be able to share.
