This article resolves the issue of a personal PC being stuck in Windows "S" mode.
If you cannot install applications outside of the Microsoft Store your computer is most likely in "S" mode. Installing applications like Lockdown Browser will require you to exit this mode.
Prerequisites
- Administrative rights on the computer
Step 1: Go to Settings on Your Windows PC
- Open the settings app on your Windows PC by clicking on the gear icon or search settings in the search bar at the bottom of the screen near the start menu.
- Once in settings go to the section titled System. This section can be found on the left as shown in the image below.
- Then go to the subsection titled Activation. This subsection has a checkmark with a circle around it as the image.
- Find the Switch to Windows 11 Pro section or Upgrade your edition of Windows.
- Then select the Open Store button.
Step 2: Windows Store
- On the Microsoft Store page that appears select the Get button.
- Once the installation is complete your PC will no longer be in "S" mode.
