How to Use the One Button Studios

Prerequisites 

• Must be a JCU student or a staff/faculty member
  • The Grasselli Library One Button studio requires a Carroll Card to access the room. 
• Must have access to a Canvas and Google Workspace account

This Article Covers:

This article discusses how to utilize the two One Button studios on-campus. The technology in both studios is the same. The only difference is that the Grasselli studio has a teleprompter, while the O'Malley one doesn't. Anyone needing a teleprompter is encouraged to book the Grasselli studio.

Step by Step Tutorial:

One Button Software

1. On the side of the table, press the on button on the white colored circular holder.
2. Adjust the height of the table with the up and down arrows at the right corner of the table.
3. Log in to Canvas using your JCU credentials.
4. Once you're in Canvas, click on Studio on the left-hand side.
5. Click on Create in the top center of the screen.
6. Then click on Studio Capture.
   1. You have the ability to customize your background.
7. Click on Start Recording.
8. After you're finished, click on Finish.
   1. Decide if you want to Save Media or Start Over. The saved media will appear in Canvas Studio for you to view anytime.
   2. To record to the software's jump drive:
      1. Insert it into the Record USB port. 
      2. Click the red button to record and the white stop button to end the recording.
      3. Insert the jump drive into the Computer USB port and save your media.

Using the Teleprompter (Grasselli Library studio only)

1. Pull up the script you're going to be reading from during your recording.
2. Open a new tab and go to cueprompter.com.
3. Copy and paste your script into the teleprompter.
4. Click on start new prompter.
5. Adjust text size and scrolling speed based on personal preferences.
6. Move the cursor to be before the first letter of the very first word of your script. Press the enter key on the keyboard three times to move the entire text down.
   • This is to ensure effective flow between recording from Canvas Studio and simultaneously navigating the teleprompter.
7. Click on Start Recording in Canvas Studio.
8. Click the play button on the teleprompter. The text will scroll down on its own.
9. When you're done reading your script, you can hit Finish in Canvas Studio.

DScribe Lightboard

1. On the side of the lightboard, press the on button on the white colored circular holder.
2. Below the on/off buttons, turn both dials to the right to adjust the lighting in the video recording. 
   • Left knob will adjust the brightness on the screen
   • Right knob will adjust the brightness of the board itself
     • It will also adjust the lighting for any text, if you choose to write on the lightboard with markers provided
3. Login to Canvas using your JCU credentials.
   • At this time, you can open any other materials you'll need for your recording including powerpoints, notes, etc.
4. Once you're in Canvas, click on Studio on the left-hand side.
5. Click on Create in the top center of the screen.
6. Then click on Studio Capture.
   1. You have the ability to customize your background.
7. Click on Start Recording.
