Overview
Canvas includes several IgniteAI tools that use artificial intelligence to help instructors create and manage course content, communicate with students, and find course materials. The following tools are available as optional, instructor-enabled features:
Features:
- IgniteAI Generator for Rubrics – Generate editable rubric criteria, point values, and performance levels.
- IgniteAI Question Authoring for Quizzes – Generate quiz questions based on course content.
- IgniteAI Translations for Discussions & Announcements – Translate discussion and announcement content into supported languages.
- IgniteAI Search for Courses – Search course content using natural-language queries.
Who is eligible to use it?
The IgniteAI tools are available to both instructors and students, depending on the tool. Instructors must enable the applicable feature option in their course before the tool can be used.
- Instructors: Can use all four IgniteAI tools.
- Students: Can use IgniteAI Translations for Discussions & Announcements and IgniteAI Search for Courses when those features are enabled in the course.
How do I request / access it?
Instructors can enable IgniteAI tools for their course through Settings > Feature Options. Each tool must be enabled individually.
- Open your Canvas course.
- In Course Navigation, click Settings.
- Click the Feature Options tab.
- Locate the IgniteAI feature you want to enable.
- Select Enabled from the feature's status menu.
Once enabled, the IgniteAI tool will be available in the appropriate area of the course.
Note: The availability and exact names of IgniteAI Feature Options may change as Canvas updates these features.
