Manually Connect to eduroam [Windows]

Symptoms

When connecting to eduroam you are never prompted to put in your credentials. You may see "Connected, No Internet" for the connection status, or you may be able to access some websites and resources but not others.

Prerequisites 

• JCU managed laptop
• Windows-based laptop

Step 1: Forget eduroam

1. Follow the instructions in the "How to Forget a Network Connection" article to forget your connection to eduroam.

Step 2: Set up a manual connection

1. Click on the network icon in the bottom right, then click on Network & Internet settings

2. On the Network Status page click on Network and Sharing Center
   
3. Choose the Set up a new connection or network option

4. Select Manually connect to a wireless network, then click Next
5. Fill in the connection settings then click Next:
   1. Network name: eduroam
   2. Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
   3. Check Box Start this connection automatically

6. Click on Change Connection settings
7. Choose the Security tab, then make sure the authentication method is Protect EAP (PEAP)
   
8. Click on the Settings button next to PEAP.
   
   1. Uncheck Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate
   2. Make sure the Authentication Method is set to EAP-MSCHAP v2
   3. Click on Configure next to EAP-MSCHAP, then uncheck the Automatically use my Windows logon name and password option.
   4. Click OK on the open windows to get back to the Security tab
9. Now click on the Advanced Settings button on the Security tab
10. Check box Specify authentication mode, then select the User Authentication
    
11. Click on Save credentials, then enter your email address and password.
12. Click on OK and apply for any open windows. After a second you should be connected to eduroam. If not, click on the network icon to open the list of available networks, then click on eduroam and connect.
