Frequently Asked Questions
Hardware
Am I required to use my personal Device with Zoom Phone?
Absolutely not! With the new Zoom Phone service, you have the option to use your cell phone (through the Zoom App) to answer any JCU phone numbers you have access to, but this is a "feature" not a requirement.
Can I request both a desk phone and a headset?
The university will provide one or the other. If you would like a desk phone we recommend that you request that and you can utilize any Bluetooth enabled Headset with ZoomPhone on your computer.
If I opt for a desk phone, can I still use the softphone option?
The softphone feature is available to anyone who has a phone number assigned to them regardless of whether you opt for a desk phone.
Can I still request a desk phone or headset?
You can request hardware at any time. Please complete the Zoom Hardware Request form. Please note that depending on our equipment supply it may take some time to order and receive the requested device.
Software
I have the Zoom Client on my device but I don't see a phone option.
The Zoom option will show up when your license is updated to include Zoom Phone. Until then, you won't see it. ITS will be sending out announcements regarding when that date will be.
I have the Zoom App on my personal device, is there a way to limit when my JCU phone rings on my device?
You can set a schedule for all of your devices of when it will ring or notify you. You can decide which devices it can ring on and you can set up holiday or other days off so that it won't ring at all during those days. These settings can be found by going to johncarrolluniversity.zoom.us, clicking "Phone" under "Personal" in the left-hand navigation.

How will student employees or graduate student use ZoomPhone?
Students will not receive a license for ZoomPhone. If they were using a desk phone before, they will continue to use a desk phone going forward.
I have multiple lines on my phone currently, will the new system be able to handle that?
Absolutely, whether you are using a desk phone or the softphone you will still have the ability to answer all of the lines you were responsible for before this transition.
