This article discusses how to utilize the Center for Digital Media's 3D printing service. The CDM has two Ultimaker S8 3D printers open for all JCU students, faculty, and staff to use for academic purposes and no charge. Both 3D printers can produce smaller 3D models based on designs found or created on your computer.

Submitting a 3D Printing File

  1. Plan your model
    • Decide what you want to create (keychain, logo, figurine, etc)
      •  Simpler and smaller designs are easier to print successfully
  2. Find a 3D print file based on your model's needs
    • Research websites including but not limited to Thingiverse, Printables and MakerWorld and select a premade model that suits your project's needs
    • Download the file in .STL format
    • If you prefer to create your 3D model from scratch, you're more than welcome to do so
  3. Submit your 3D printing file to the CDM
    • Students and faculty interested in using the 3D printer service are encouraged to submit print jobs by opening a ticket or emailing cdm@jcu.edu
    • In your ticket or email, include your name, the course your model is for, your .STL file, as well as a deadline for your print job
    • The CDM will notify you, via a PackCity notification email, when your 3D model is ready for pick-up
      • Your model will be in the yellow lockers right outside the CDM lab, which is rm. B112 in Grasselli Library
