Self-Service Software Installation

A pre-approved selection of software is available for installation from the built-in JCU app store. 

Prerequisites 

  • You are using a computer that is owned and managed by John Carroll.
  • For Mac computers - a stable internet connection.
  • For Windows computers - a stable connection to the campus network (Eduroam or wired), or a VPN connection if off-campus.

Install an app from Software Center on a Windows Computer

  1. Open your Start Menu and search for "Software Center". You can also find it in your Start Menu in your list of applications.

  3. Click on the application you want to install, then click the Installation button.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. The installation may take several minutes. The Status line will show you the download progress and installation status.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  5. When the installation is finished, the Install button will either be greyed out or turn into an Uninstall button.
NOTE:  Occasionally you will receive a message that the installation failed. If you receive this message, check your Start Menu and make sure that the application wasn't installed despite the error. If you don't see the application, contact the Service Desk for assistance.

Install an app from JCU Self Service on a MacOS Computer

  1. Search for the Self Service app using Spotlight, or open Launchpad to find it.

  2. Log in with your JCU username and password.

  3. Click on the Browse tab to view the full list of applications.

  4. Find the application you'd like and click the Install button. You'll see a progress bar as the app installs and be notified when the installation finishes.
