General Browser Troubleshooting

This article provides a list of common troubleshooting steps for web browser issues. If you are experiencing problems with your browser, such as slow loading times, pop-ups, or websites not displaying correctly, follow these steps in order.

Clearing Cache and Cookies

Chrome

  1. From the  menu, choose More Tools > Clear browsing data.
  2. Select the time range you wish to clear, such as All time.
  3. Check the boxes for Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
  4. Click Clear data.

Firefox

  1. From the choose Setting > Privacy and Security
  2. Select the time range you wish to clear, such as All time.
  3. Check the boxes for Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
  4. Select All Time
  5. Click Clear data.

Safari

  1. From the Safari dropdown menu choose Settings>Privacy>Privacy Tab>Manage Website Data
  2. Click Remove All

Checking Extensions

  1. Navigate to your browser's extensions page.
    • In Chrome, type chrome://extensions into the address bar.
    • In Firefox, type about:addons into the address bar.
    • In Safari, go to Settings and click on the Extensions tab
  2. Toggle off each extension one by one to see if the issue is resolved.

Updating Web Browsers:

  1. Navigate to your browser's settings.
  2. Look for a section titled About or Help.
  3. The browser will automatically check for and install updates.

Testing in Incognito or Private Mode

Incognito or private browsing mode runs without extensions or cached data, which can help determine if the problem is related to your profile.

  1. Open an incognito or private window.
    • Right-click the browser icon and choose New incognito window.
    • Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows/Linux) or + Shift + N (macOS).
  2. Test the website in the new window.
  3. If the problem disappears, it is likely caused by an extension or cached data.
