Connect to a Printer - JCU owned Windows Computer

Below are the instructions for connecting to a printer from a Windows computer owned by JCU. Please see the Mobility Print article for personal or Mac computers.

Prerequisites 

  • Before beginning, please ensure that you are connected to eduroam if you are on a wireless connection! If you are printing remotely, off campus, connect to the VPN.

  • Using a Windows based computer that is owned and managed by John Carroll.

  • Students using a JCU computer in a lab, will still need to use Mobility Print.

Steps to Map a Printer

  1. Click on the Start Menu in the bottom left corner of your screen.

  2. On the Search Bar where it says “Search programs and files” type in \\printsrv19

    • Note: Be sure to use the correct slashes.

  3. A list of printers should appear that should look something like this:

  4. Search for the printer that you want to connect to (in the upper right-hand corner of the new window that popped up, where it says Search for Printers).

  5. Double-click on the selected printer.

  6. The computer will automatically install the proper drivers in order to connect to the printer. If you are prompted for administrative credentials please call the Service Desk for assistance.

  7. The print queue will then pop up when the installation is complete. You can close it and start printing.

[Optional] Set it as the default printer

  1. Click on the Start Menu or Search buttons.
  2. Type in "printers" in the search bar.
  3. Click on Printers & scanners.
  4. By default Windows will select the last printer you used. If you would instead like it to always select the same printer uncheck the option that says "Let Windows manage my default printer".
  5. Click on the printer you want as default and click Manage.
  6. Click the Set as default button.
  7. Your selected printer is now the default. Close the settings window and begin printing.
